  About me
  • My Intro: Known by many Bajans (Barbadians) as the Uncle in the music entertainment, Dyce stands out in the hip-hop category. Being a rap artiste for a few years and a DJ for half a decade, Dyce puts himself above his competition by a 'stone-toss' length.

Dyce was born into a bloodline of artists and poets such as his father Frank Gilkes and his uncle Antarrah Gilkes. He has been forming rhymes from 9 years old and wrote his first song at 14 years old, touching audiences with his first ever performance. He has received recognition and respect from local artists such as Richard Stoute, Junior Killa (his first producer) and The Mighty Gabby whom especially loved the rap/R&B songs. In 2005, he started a group called Nu Editions and it was shortly after, renamed to The Chosen Ones, better known as The C1 Army, which included his cousin Rique, L-Diablo (The Myth) and Cool Chris. The army of entertainers who have been performing together for three years wrote over 30 songs including Blue Moon, My Apology, It Hurts Inside and the tribute song, Cryin'. However, in May 2008, the C1 Army was ended due to certain issues and causes.

After the shocking end of the group, Dyce laid low, waiting for the right time to return to the mic. Though taking a break, the self-proclaimed "Uncle" still has had time to work with his "nephews and nieces" in their music. Now, being off the scene for too long, he plans his anticipated return, now under the management of Omar "Jigga" Chapman of Westside Sounds and Junior Killa of Ks-01 and Stainless Steel Records, which is founded by Steely, also doing work with Radar Studios and with one of his long-time friends'/influence, Lyrical. Still putting pen to paper with his cousin Rique, Dyce is ready to return to the studios, the stage and more so, the streets.

Dyce - The Bad Habit, as he also refers himself as will be featured on the upcoming mixtape from Lyrical called Da Streets: Home is Where The Heart Is and also some other collaborations with Mikey Blu, Nitro EverHype and Ruby Tech and many more. He is also currently working on his debut album Pain & Para'dyce which includes his first summer "love/pain" single, Don't Know What Love Is. For a young artist, he is very determined and with his heart set on his goal, there is nothing proven, that Dyce is not capable of. Dyce is also one of the youngest movie writers in Barbados, writing the script of the movie "Role Of The Dyce" which he hopes can be finished shooting and released by Barbados' Film Festival 2008.
